How do we ensure that stickers are delivered on time, correctly and efficiently, without costing unnecessary time and money? We have talked about this question already with individual growers and buyers and, on 8 October, with members of Plantform (growers), buyers and Floriday during a roundtable discussion on the sticker process. Rising labour costs and many different sticker formats make the process increasingly complex. That is why the industry is working together on a standardised process that will make it easier for both growers and buyers to process stickers.
Timeliness of stickers
A major pressing issue in the current process is the timing of delivery of sticker information. In several cases, it doesn't arrive until after the order has been placed. Then it takes a long time to receive the sticker information. The group of growers and buyers concluded that the sticker information should be fully and correctly available digitally, even before the order status with the grower is finalised. This involves determining what is technically feasible. Floriday is working with Plantform on a proposal to standardise this process.
Standardisation of formats
In addition to timeliness, the format of stickers was also discussed. Many different formats are currently in use, making automation difficult. In the coming period, growers and exporters will work on a proposal for a limited number of standard formats that are suitable for different pot sizes and applications.
Further development
It has also been agreed that all stickers will be printed at the grower nursery, in order to improve internal logistics. Inclusion of the financial fulfilment of sticker fees will ensure that they can be processed correctly and transparently in future.
A follow-up session is scheduled for 19 November. During these consultations, the detailed proposals will be discussed and concrete agreements will be worked out that are workable for the entire chain (including flower and plant growers).
