During the second consultation of the Sector Platform in June, a delegation of growers, buyers, Royal FloraHolland and other stakeholders once again discussed various topics that contribute to a digitally future-proof sector.

Participants in the quarterly consultation are Royal Lemkes, Dutch Flower Group, Van der Plas, FM Group, Florius Flowers, Lugt Lisianthus, KP Holland, VGB and Royal FloraHolland. The consultation will focus on strengthening collaboration, digital adoption and data sharing, with Floriday as the central hub.

Some key outcomes from the consultation:

An explanation was given by Floriday about the adoption of the platform. Among plant growers and buyers, adoption of the platform is high. Among flower growers and buyers, this adoption is lower. The importance of cooperation between all parties, including buyers, growers, software suppliers and Royal FloraHolland/Floriday, was highlighted. All parties endorse the importance of collaborating to increase adoption in the flower trade and also to discuss this with their contacts.

Floriday's pivotal position as a digital platform for the floriculture industry also requires steps to increase digital security. Introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) can make a significant contribution. MFA is a method of verifying a user's authentication (are you who you say you are?) in more than one way, such as using a code on your phone. Participants expressed the importance of maintaining the use of MFA as standard to reduce the likelihood of inadvertent use of Floriday accounts.

There was also reflection on unlocking sustainability information through Floriday. There was discussion on the progress of the Packaging Register[1]  and a focus on the FloriPEFCR. The FloriPEFCR is a scientific method that calculates the environmental impact of a floricultural product in a clear and verified way. With this information, the environmental impact of floricultural products can be reduced, compared and monitored. In the Sector Platform consultations, it was reiterated that it is very important that we as an industry start to share the necessary data in a common and thorough way and take steps to do so. In this consultation it was decided to focus more on these issues.
